Primates Meeting for the Asian Region of the Anglican Communion in Amman, Jordan.

On February 5 - 7, the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East, led by the Most Reverend Suheil S. Dawani, hosted the Primates Meeting for the Asian Region of the Anglican Communion in Amman, Jordan. In addition to the attendance of Primates from the Region, present at the meeting were the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, the Right Reverend Anthony Poggo, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Adviser on Anglican Communion Affairs, and Mr. Phil George, Chief Executive of Lambeth 2020.

Discussions at the sessions focused on concerns within the various Provinces of the Region as a preparation for the upcoming Lambeth Conference, to be held at Kent University in July and early August of next year. The Primates were also able to worship twice with clergy and local parishioners at the Church of the Redeemer in Amman, the largest church in the Diocese of Jerusalem, and to exchange greetings with His Most Beatitude, Theophilos III, the Greek Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Middle East. As part of a local pilgrim excursion, they visited the Baptismal Site of Christ at the Jordan River, where they held a service of Morning Prayer on the Jordanian riverbank. Ambassador Edward Oakden, British Ambassador to Jordan, joined the Primates for an audience with King Abdullah II on the second day of the meeting. The Ambassador and Mrs. Oakden later hosted the Primates and local clergy for a dinner at their residence.
