One of the things you notice as you read the Jewish and Christian Scriptures is the importance placed on showing hospitality to strangers. And anyone who has traveled to the Holy Land and visited the home of a native Arab or Jew has likely experienced the generous hospitality that remains a defining cultural element.
It seems especially appropriate, therefore, to highlight the work of the Guest Houses of the Diocese of Jerusalem. These include St. George’s Pilgrim Guest House and Christ Church Guest House in Jerusalem, St. Margaret’s Guest House in Nazareth, St. Luke Guest House in Haifa and the Schneller Guest House in Amman, Jordan.
The two Guest Houses in Jerusalem share certain similarities. Both are located in or near the Old City of Jerusalem, and both have some 25-30 rooms for guests. Both serve meals, have small gift shops and both are located on the grounds of their respective churches. But the character of the Houses seems very different.
Shelter for pilgrims, tourists, students...
Gracious God, you welcome us in as strangers and prodigals to find our home in your love. Thank you for the continued presence and ministries of the Diocesan Guest Houses. Grant that they may continue to provide an open door of hospitality to pilgrims and travelers along the way.
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
